Greenwood Town Board Meeting – January 14, 2014
Chr. Baland called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm.
Present: Chr. Baland, Vice-Chr. Aro, Supervisors DeLuca, Doroff and Reichel, Treasurer Clark, Clerk Trancheff
MOTION Reichel/Aro to approve the Dec. 10, 2013 minutes. Approved 5/0
MOTION Aro/DeLuca to approve the Treasurer’s Report for Dec. 2013: Checking-$589,871.32/Long Term Investments-$250,114.58/
Savings-$293,024.76=$1,130,010.66. Approved 5/0
MOTION Aro/Doroff to pay Claims #15652-15724 totaling $63,337.62. Approved 5/0
MOTION DeLuca/Baland to issue payroll and fixed bills Feb. 1. Approved 5/0
Persons on the Agenda: Marcie Moe reminded people to attend the Polymet meeting.
Jeff Maus asked about receipts and employee issues
Correspondence: BRP response to Motors on Boat #1
Old Business: BRP – Boat #1 motors – Letter from BRP denying the request from the township to compensate for the motors that have
had issues 4 times now.
Sup. Aro asked if Rick Worringer and Lee Peterson would look at the motor reports and advise the board and Chief Fazio
They agreed to do so
New Business:
1- Appoint Election Judges/Absentee Ballot Board for March 11 Township Election
MOTION Reichel/Doroff to appoint the Election Judges/Absentee Ballot Board Members: Renee Aro, Pam Carter, Delores Clark, Jeanne
Franson, Kathy Lovgren, Marilyn Mueller, Patricia Surla, Murline Tahija, Kathy Vogh, Marcia Vietanen. Approved 5/0
Others for the Primary and General: Mary Worringer, Carol Maus, Ruth DeLuca
2- Exempt Permit Application for Loggers Convention at Fortune Bay
MOTION DeLuca/Doroff to approve the Exempt Permit for the Associated Loggers Convention. Approved 5/0
Reports:
Fire Chief:
1- Chief Fazio reported on the Fire/EMS Calls for Dec-2 EMS/1 Brush Pile/Meeting/Drill
Asked if the board would approve the members being part of the Volunteer Firefighter Benefit Assn. at a rate of $11/person/year for the first year and $7/year after-most of the other area depts.. belong
MOTION Aro/Doroff to authorize enrollment if the program is presented as is-verification of new members joining mid year. Approved 5/0
2- Thankyou’s went out to Curly Skogman and John Tikanen-Curly gave a snowmobile trail drill and John provided us with sets of maps
3- Jan. Drill-Lake Vermilion Fire Brigade will come and there will be a drill on extrication equipment
4- Feb. 4 – Bloodborne Pathogen Training-Right to know-Hazmat
5- April-EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Class) 2 sessions-classroom and practical
6- Have commitments from 9 to become First Responders-Classes here at the hall in March – cost $445/person including books. March 20, 27 from 6-10, March 29 from 9-5 and April 3 from 6-10. The other half will be independent study/on line.
7- Met with Kevin Koski and Mark Olson at Fortune Bay-looking to more drill time at the facilities
8- FEMA Grant-hose was delivered Jan. 7. There is some money left in the grant.
Safety Officer: Peg Nelson Absent
Planning Director: Julia Maki reported that there will more discussion regarding job descriptions for PZ/BOA members.
Maintenance: Pat Trancheff summarized December work done.
Clerk: Ellen Trancheff working on the budget preparation for this meeting

Work on 2015 Levy/Budget:
Sup. Aro prepared the budget for 2015 with most items filled in for anticipated needs for 2015. Board members reviewed and discussed
the salary section.
MOTION DeLuca/Doroff to increase all salaries by 2% except maintenance that already had a 2% increase via the contract. Approved 5/0
MOTION Aro/Doroff to adjourn at 8:05 pm.
